Meet Yukari

Tokyo-born artist and designer Yukari Hotta creates abstract sculptures that explore the relationship between material, nature and the human form.

Working primarily with stoneware clay, her process is slow, intuitive and deeply physical. Rather than forcing a material into a predetermined shape, Yukari allows gravity, texture and the natural behaviour of clay to become part of the process, turning making into a dialogue between intention and chance.

Yukari & Copenhagen

Yukari arrived in Copenhagen from Japan more than twenty years ago. What began as a journey to study Scandinavian design gradually became a life, and a city she now describes as one of her homelands.

Surrounded by the sea, forests and parks, Copenhagen brought nature closer to her everyday life and eventually into her work. Yet living between cultures has remained an important part of who she is. Still deeply connected to her Japanese roots,

Copenhagen has given her the space to build an identity that belongs somewhere in between, shaped by places, people and experiences gathered along the way.
