Story

Inspired by the ‘90s, the decade of rebirth and freedom.
The 1990s in Cape Town were years when the world turned its eyes to South Africa. After decades of struggle, apartheid came to an end, Nelson Mandela walked free, and Cape Town became the stage where a nation reimagined itself. The air carried the weight of history and the lightness of possibility. Long Street pulsed with new bars and music clubs, voices of kwaito and jazz rising from the sidewalks, echoing a freedom that was finally tangible. The city’s landscapes became metaphors of transformation: Table Mountain, timeless and immovable, looked over a society in flux, while the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, once industrial docks, transformed into a symbol of modern cosmopolitan life, filled with art, food, and global culture. From Woodstock’s warehouses, artists began reshaping abandoned spaces into galleries and studios, planting the seeds of Cape Town’s future creative scene. The ‘90s were raw, imperfect, but bursting with energy. A decade when every sunrise over the ocean felt like a beginning, when Cape Town was no longer just a place, it was a promise.
Because in the ‘90s, Cape Town taught the world that freedom is not just an idea. It’s a rhythm, a voice, and a way of living.
