Meet Meet José & Gezo
Gezo Marqués and José Aparício are the perfect artistic duo behind Oficina Marques, a design studio in Portugal that focuses on craftsmanship by blending unique colors and patterns with geometry. Their creations range from wooden panels and artisanal ceramics to wooden sculptures and object assemblages. Their main sources of inspiration? The sea, forest, body, faith, and the city of Lisbon.

José + Gezo & Lisbon
For José, the city evokes a mix of sadness and happiness, a feeling he attributes to all port towns, reflecting the soulful and melancholic essence of the Portuguese spirit. He sees Lisbon as a place where past and future blend seamlessly, and this combination is mirrored in their work as artists. The city's bohemian and marginal spirit resonates in their creations, where tradition and innovation coexist.
Gezo finds the mixture of elements in Lisbon "magical." Living and working in the vibrant Bairro Alto, a neighborhood known for its chaotic energy and tightly knit, eclectic atmosphere, has shaped their art. This sense of contrast and agglomeration fuels their creativity, making Lisbon their home and a constant source of inspiration.

“Lisbon is a combination of past and present, it’s very magical. Bairro Alto represents a bit of this chaos, everything is very offset and agglomerated. This is an inspiration.”
