Story

Copenhagen in the '70s

Inspired by simple and essential shapes, rooted from the early functionalism to the latest modernism. The ‘70s have been years of radical change. Copenhagen was the playground of important architects such as Friis & Molkte, Jørn Utzon and Jan Gehl. Just to name a few of the most influential names of the country which introduced their mild version of Brutalism, often featuring huge, robust building structures tucked into the landscape, raw concrete walls and visible technical installations. Together with a strong and influential architectural movement, Danish designers Finn Juhl, Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen, strongly influenced by the functional forms of the Bauhaus school in Germany, have lead the way in design, particularly in the fields of furniture and lighting. This is why Copenhagen is the epitome of “Scandi cool”.
